John Wick: Chapter 4 is the fourth installment in the American neo-noir action thriller media franchise John Wick starring Keanu Reeves. It was directed by Chad Stahelski, with screenplay written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch. Production commenced in June 2021 in Paris and Berlin, with additional filming locations in Japan and New York City. The film was initially released in London theatres on March 6 2023, and in the United States on March 24th.

Rina Sawayama joined the cast to play the role of Akira Shimazu, the concierge of the Osaka Continental Hotel and daughter of its manager, Koji Shimazu.

Summary

John Wick: Chapter 4 continues the story of legendary assassin John Wick (Keanu Reeves) as he seeks a way to free himself from the control of the High Table, the powerful organization that governs the criminal underworld. With a growing list of enemies and a shrinking number of safe havens, Wick travels across multiple countries—including Japan, Germany, and France—encountering new allies and adversaries who test his skills, loyalty, and endurance.

Wick confronts increasingly deadly challenges while pursuing a path that could allow him to escape the cycle of violence that has defined his life.

Production

The screenplay was written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch, as the studio had decided to move on from series creator Derek Kolstad. Production commenced in June 2021 in Paris and Berlin, with additional filming locations in Japan and New York City.

In June 2021, Rina Sawayama joined the cast along with Donnie Yen, Shamier Anderson, Bill Skarsgård and Hiroyuki Sanada.

On casting Sawayama, the film's director Chad Stahelski said he was "so glad to have [her] on board to make her feature film debut" in John Wick: Chapter 4. "She's an incredible talent who'll bring so much to the film."
