"Lucid" (stylized in all caps) is a single by Rina Sawayama, released on 25 November 2020. The song was written by Rina Sawayama and Lauren Aquilina,[2] while BloodPop produced it.[3] It is featured on the deluxe edition of Rina's debut LP, Sawayama, and serves as the album's sixth single.[4][5]
An accompanying extended reality video for the song was premiered on 4 December 2020, directed by Dave Ferner and Ksenia Kulakova, and produced by Bild Studios.

Sawayama wrote the song on her living room using voice notes with Lauren Aquilina in 2018.[2]
Sawayama performed "Lucid" during a show on Minecraft on 28 May 2020.[6] During a livestream via Twitch with American musician Hana, Sawayama confirmed that "Lucid" would be released along with a music video.[7][8]
On 21 November 2020, Sawayama revealed that she would be releasing new music before the end of the year.[9] On 23 November she tweeted "PIXELS secure EVERYTHING in ur house this week for new music". The tweet was later quoted by American producer BloodPop.[10] That same day, Sawayama announced the single, produced by BloodPop, and its cover art.[3]
Critical reception[]
Lake Schatz from Consequence of Sound commented that the single "sees [Sawayama] doing what she knows best — reimagining the confines of pop music."[5] Writing for Paper magazine, Matt Moen commented that the song is "just the vibrant, queer bop we've needed to get us through these last few weeks of 2020." He also praised Sawayama's vocals "on full display with a catchy hook over a kaleidoscopic day-glo beat".[11] According to The Guardian's Jenessa Williams, the track delivers everything "a great pop song should," she wrote, "gushing lyrics about intoxicating love, sultry whispered interludes and a stupidly upbeat chorus that will sound incredible when we’re finally allowed back in the club."[12]

LUCID EXTENDED REALITY VIDEO – Behind the scenes
On November 30, 2020, Sawayama announced an "extended reality" video for "Lucid".[13] Directed by Dave Ferner and Ksenia Kulakova, the video was filmed in July 2020, "just after the first lockdown was lifted in the UK".[14]
The music video for "Lucid" was released on 4 December 2020.
