"Take Me as I Am" is the second track from Rina Sawayama's debut extended play, Rina, released on 27 October 2017. The song, written by Sawayama with the song's producer Clarence Clarity, addresses pop music's lack of Asian representation.

In an interview with The Fader magazine, Sawayama explained that the song addresses pop music’s lack of Asian representation. "The sonic influences are coming from a place where there were no politics in the music," says Sawayama of these retro textures. "I wanted to use that tongue-in-cheek sound to convey a message."[1]

Sawayama first performed "Take Me As I Am" as part of an exclusive live performance for Vevo DSCVR.[2] The live performance, directed by Daniel Broadley and produced by Nick Calafato, was uploaded on YouTube on 3 September 2018.
